Hi Tristan.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to see UFO at Sweden Rock. I have seen UFO serveral times and they have always been a fantastic experience but this time they surpassed themselves. And I have no word for Phil Mogg performance. He is 61 and I have never seen him better, unbelievable. He deserves a medal for long faithful service.

The link below is from a danish music magazine with some reveiws from Sweden Rock and UFO get 6 stars (maximum).

I have tried to translate the review (attached file) but I am sure it needs some proofreading. I hope you get the essence of the review.

sincerely
Ralf from Copenhagen, Denmark

UFO - when everything goes into a higher unity ******

Then there was the celebration. I have seen UFO several times in various constellations, but never have been as gripping as this evening. Gaming joy, talent and a good portion of humor is what it takes to create an amazing rock concert. UFO was the audience down with a feeling of joy and precision that is so infected by the audience which receipted by delivering festival biggest unprovoked choir, and it changed nothing even when the sky in "Rock Bottom" opened the floodgates and sent cascades of Water on our heads. The audience was indomitable, and UFO gave it the gas, although the roadies struggled to save the plant, as water was entering the scene. UFO just laughed and played undeterred and gave the audience even more to shout for. So when "Doctor Doctor" was played, I have never, and I mean never heard such singing audience. Phil Mogg might as well sit down because he could not deafen the audience. See, this is such an atmosphere, which promises a great concert for a remarkably good concert, when the spirit is there and when there is contact.

Tonight was the backbone Mogg, Raymond and Parker from the greatness of the time in the company of guitarist Vinnie Moore, who has evolved into being a fabulous guitarist, which is completely uncontrollable on his guitar and get everyone to forget that there once was a certain Michael Schenker with the band. The original bass player Pete Way is on the tour replaced by Barry Sparks known from Ted Nugent and Dokken, and I love the fact that he and Andy Parker on drums was a bottom, there will something.

From "Mother Mary" to "Only You Can Rock Me," "Too Hot to Handle," "Lights Out" to "Rock Bottom" and yes, even "Shoot Shoot", which sometimes does not swing, sat this evening just in cupboard. Say no more, see this rock without frills and damned efficient.

UFO – Still more than humanly good

UFO is coming to the Netherlands, in my own hometown and venue de Pul in Uden. That is one chance I can’t let go. In a weekend where I’m not exactly feeling my best I head off that way with my best friend and photographer of the night Sjaak Vesters, just to enjoy the past once more.
First off I feel I should say that I think it’s a shame that we aren’t able to walk over heads tonight. On the other hand the venue is filled enough to make it look full and keep the atmosphere relaxed. Soon we discover that there is only a main course, which means that UFO will have to make this evening work on their own accord. It does fill us with hope that they might play a longer set, even though that might not be easy for (and I say this with respect) these elderly gentlemen. It’s a real pity that for the first 20 dates of this tour they will be without the very sympathetic professional drinker Pete Way. Yes, tonight is one of the early dates, but as the big man is replaced by the formidable Barry Sparks, we’ll forgive him. The man even carries the same bass guitar, only without the Aston Villa colours!

..........

When the guys enter the stage it seems that singer Phil Mogg works best in a skirt, giving his crown jewels room to manoeuvre, and a good reason not to move too close to the edge of the stage. The band starts with Helldriver off their new album The Visitor and it must be said that it does really rock and make you want to listen to the whole record. After that we get another reasonably young song, before they start to play just about the whole Strangers In The Night album. Which isn’t a surprise, as it still is one of the best live albums of all times, but it also says a lot about this band depending on their past so much.

Not that you’ll find anyone complaining, because the band is in great form tonight. Phil Mogg, who isn’t exactly known for his healthy lifestyle, clearly goes to the gym quite often. The result is that he is as fit as a fiddle, also because of the Dutch water he drinks and praises tonight, according to him. His voice is very strong this evening, which is an absolute must if a show of UFO is to become a successful one.

Paul Raymond

Vinnie Moore

Guitarist Vinnie Moore is clearly fully integrated within the band, as he plays as if he never has done anything else. It makes you hardly miss the original guitar player who made most of the songs played tonight very famous. Only with the real pure Schenker songs, Rock Bottom and Doctor Doctor, does it become apparent that Vinnie has trouble to play them the way the great master always does. It is only a minor smudge on a further flawless night. Tonight’s sound is perfect and the backbone of the band, drummer Andy Parker and bassist Barry Sparks, work their arses off to keep the band going. And, well, the utterly boring presentation of guitarist/keyboardist Paul Raymond doesn’t hide the fact that he is playing to his heart’s content. When you see these guys perform together you have to see that they still play everything with the utmost pleasure, worthy of a nice warm round of applause. And yes, after this show of pleasant music I do feel great again.

.........

Just over an hour and a half later the guys run out of juice, run out of steam. That is a pity, but it also means that we can go home early this Sunday, and make sure we get home before dark. It gives the aging people a chance to get in bed in time enough to go to work fit on the Monday.

600 rock fans rejoice, the old "UFO"
Over 600 fans were celebrating on Saturday evening, the legendary hard rock band UFO. Very good was also the young guitarist Ulmer "Yasi" in the act of hard-warhorse occurred.
"40 Years of Rock" was the program of the hard rock, all the even number of years on the hump, but in a tent Ulmer extremely dynamic appearance laid down.
Originally conceived as ProgressiveSpaceRock band was founded, developed the style of the perfectly orchestrated UFO Hardrock.Nach separation and reunion was held in England hard rock legend with the new guitarist Vinnie Moore and the original members, Phil Mogg, Andy Parker and Paul Raymondzur old, powerful energy back. In Ulmer tent they played powerful and dynamic. The more than 600 rock-freaks were fully at their expense.
The young guitarist Ulmer Yasi meets with her band as Supportact on. And was able to mostly older rock fans who had come because of UFO, quite convincing. Also for the young musician Ulmer, there were plenty and well-deserved applause.

TRANSLATED FROM GERMAN:

It is 40 years here that a certain Phil Mogg established a volume, that gave it the name of an at that time Londoner in clubs: UFO. It is and 36 years here that in Ulm a piece of skirt story reported itself. Bernie Marsden that at that time guitarist disappeared the volume, before the Ulmer concert. Michael Schenker, the first 17-year-old suffered guitarist of the at that time yet unknown Hannover volume Scorpions, burst for it on and became volume member after the tour at the Britons.

Schenker the first German musician, who had created it into the elite of the British Hardrock, was became therewith, yes style forming for an entire generation of skirt guitarists. That provided for headline, increased the popularity of the Scorpions and made UFO, also thanks to the virtuosity Schenkers, to one of the most successful volume of the '70's. Only: The duo Mogg/Schenker could actually never together. To the antipathy, drug problems came. But: The large success remained forbids UFO without Schenker just as like Schenker without UFO. One fought therefore again and again together, made tours, on whom Schenker and Mogg should have changed no word together. The possible case height in live entrances was then also correspondingly.

Six years ago Vinnie bogs pulled the volumes a final stroke and obligated the US guitarist. A good decision how in the concert in the Ulmer tent appeared. For bogs a boy well is very obviously for the volumes, that with Mogg, Drummer Andy Parker and guitarist and Keyboarder Paul Raymond today yet three musicians in the Line Up has, who were also in the large UFOS times there.

What let hear the quintet in the tent, sounded pressure full, fresh and no little after that that Mogg and Raymond already exceeded that 60. Also thanks to bog guitar work.

The old rabbits know cleared and that, it bogs a lot of opportunity for solos on, that the guitarist knew to use not only with stupender technology, but rather also highly tasteful and with large tone. So are fun guitar solos.

Also creativity revived and bogs the volume, that worked after the large successes for decades with the eternally same ingredients: Solidly, but without the decisive Kick, that makes a hit out of an average skirt number. The titles of the new CD "The inspected", of which the volumes presented some in the Ulmer tent, had pressure, also if Phil Mogg yet had to read so many a text. And if then also yet the old hits such as "Doctor, Doctor" and "skirt Bottom" stand on the Setlist, the heart of the Hardrock fan strikes more highly.

An astonishingly better evening in the Ulmer tent - also therefore because there was already masterly before the Briton. Yasmin yards, that showed first sixteen sixteen year-old guitar talent out of thorn city, in the before program, that also women can have a few things on the six strings thereon. No slighter than a guitar guru Steve Vai had got Yasmin yards already two years ago in its tent concert to itself on the stage.

With a volume out of professional musicians from Frankfurt the 16-Jährige showed, like near it its idol meanwhile already on the heels is - not only with composition Vais, the talent has also already own titles in the repertoire. Perhaps also this Vai concert anno becomes 2007 times an Ulmer edge notice of the skirt story. To wish would be it the exception talent out of thorn city always. How said: UFO and Yasmin yards, a dreamlike evening for guitarists.

TRANSLATED from GERMAN:

UFO fans are the force to be reckoned with

(ULM / kü) No, the Tent in the Ulmer were no unidentified flying objects, which were prominent Hardrock first grade, on Saturday which attracted fans in droves, and they end after a 100 minutes long, hot concert highly satisfied with the night dismissed. The UFO was in 1969 in London, between something in the closet and disappeared once again celebrated.

Yasi young guitarist who really has talent and has her fingers rapidly over the strings can fly, had with her band from the audience get a lot of applause. What then came was in comparison to adolescent Sturm und Drang of the act a true hurricane. The - mostly older - hard rock fans came to their full costs.

Singer Phil Mogg in his Military-kilt dominated the band and the crowd effortlessly, almost playful way. The force of his voice did not come until later, no longer to apply than the guitar amps were turned so high that the riffs Mogg vocals at times almost completely swallowed. Exceptional guitarist Vinnie Moore shone with his solos especially beguiling in the long version of "rock bottom", as Phil Mogg at the conclusion of the regular concert of his band for ten minutes left the field.

Welding Asseburg Fans

Barry Sparks sprayed before the game, the longer the concert lasted. Andy Parker (drums), as Mogg and Sparks of the Urbesetzung, and Paul Raymond (rhythm guitar and keyboards), brought their whole routine. The songs of the brand new CD "The Visitor" was the impact of the earlier songs. By the encores of "Doctor Doctor" and "Shoot Shoot" adopted the rocker steaming from their fans, which at the end of the ears belonging noisy.

1th august - live in baloma biker fest Cercemaggiore Italy

well
it was 23th february 1983

last time I saw the band alive....yes 26 years ago
I can only say they're like red wine..the more they get older the best they're............

the show was tight and energic, the band is in great shape...
Moore is fantastic and his style is very very blues and melodic
Parker is powerful , and considering the age, kick some serious ass!
the bass player do his job very well.....never too much outside his role, and always present where he has to.
Mr Raymond like to be of phase...
his guitar was never too high and his keyboarding has never been so perfect...
Mogg has a great blues voice, although he gives his best on the records, alive defends his parts and he's stil a great front.man...hats off!

I really don't know happened at the end but the band reached the dressing room before the
encores (DOCTOR and SHOOT) and let the staff pack the backline..without any come back...

( after the concert a blonde stripteaser started her show on the same stage..
Tonio and the rest of the staff did their work very hard to load all the backline in the van
with such a fox hangin around...... ;-)

I understand the location was not the Madison Square Garden,
a nice stage on the top of a mountain in the middle of a biker fest
...not nice dressing room, no backstage area, not enough security....

but ten of us we drove 300 km from our hometown to see them play
I ended up to crash on my bed at 5 o'clock in the morning.....TRISTAN!
